This is yet another thing that's called something different here than what I grew up calling it back home.
What do you call these?
(Not my picture, got it from Google, although there are about 800 of these out in the yard but it's too dark to go take a picture right now.)

We called them horse apples or hedge apples in northern Indiana. Haven't seen them in Colorado.
Looks like a fruit from an osage orange tree. We had them around the playing field at our high school, and I was always afraid one of those would brain me when we were out there. Don't know if they are edible or usable for anything, but boy are they heavy!
hedge apples we call them here in Northern Ohio. When we do find them..they are excellent for keeping spiders out of the house!
