Oh! What do YOU do with turnips?

I forgot!  My friend gave me some turnips she had left at the end of the day yesterday (and some okra, but I know what I'm going to do with that!).  I don't think I've ever eaten a turnip.    ???????

She said I could slice them and batter them and fry them or she said I could boil them and combine them with some boiled potatoes and make a soup, which is what she usually does.  I'm guessing like a potato soup?

Help!

lol.

What do I do with these things?

Thanks!

You can also make them like mashed potatoes! Cube them, boil them until tender, mash them up with butter & garlic & some milk until creamy.... YUM!

Oh, wait, I thought you meant PARSNIPS (I have parsnip envy since we didn't have any this year, sorry, it's on my mind). But I don't see why you couldn't do the same with turnips!

Yep, they are great mashed! I use them in any type of dish like stews, pot roast, soups, anything that calls for lots of root veggies, they are great! I just tried them for the first time last year and I was quite surprised by how mild they were, much like potatoes, carrots, turnips and such, I even snacked on them raw while preparing! Rutabagas go in with all that stuff well, too... have fun experimenting!
